Canadian Firearms
Safety Course

  • Classroom instruction for the Canadian Firearms Safety Course covers Modules 1 - 11 in the Student Guide. Download a free .pdf version of the Student Guide here or order a printed version here.
  • The Student Guide and the classroom instruction are the two integral components of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course.
  •  Students passing this course will be able to apply for a non-restricted PAL.
  • Includes a comprehensive audio/visual presentation as well as hands-on work with disabled non-restricted firearms and other teaching aids.
  • Class time will be 9 hours plus written and practical exams. Class starts at 8:00 am and runs until suppertime on Saturday. Individual practical exams are given on Sunday starting at 8:00 am.
  • Students between the ages of 12 and 17 who successfully complete the course may apply for a Minor's License which will allow them to possess a non-restricted firearm. They require written consent from a parent or legal guardian to take the course.
  • CFSC course fee – $200 including tax in Campbell River.

  • Course fees are non-refundable. Students may transfer, one time only, to a later course - transfer fee is $100 including tax for the CFSC. Students may arrange for an eligible alternate to take their place in the event they are unable to attend their scheduled NIFSC PAL course.


Canadian Restricted
Firearms Safety
Course

  • Students may only take this course if they have successfully completed the CFSC above.
  • Classroom instruction for the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course covers Modules 12 - 17 in the Student Guide. Download a free .pdf version of the Student Guide here or order a printed version here.
  • The Student Guide and the classroom instruction are the two integral components of the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course.
  • Students passing this course will be able to apply for a non-restricted/restricted PAL.
  • Includes a comprehensive audio/visual presentation as well as hands-on work with disabled restricted firearms and other teaching aids.
  • Class time will be a minimum 4 hours plus written and practical exams if taken within 7 days of the CFSC course. Class time will be 6 hours plus written and practical exams if taken later than 7 days. Class starts mid-morning on Sunday and runs until suppertime.
  • Students must be 18 years of age or older.
  • CRFSC four hour course fee – $131.25 including tax in Campbell River.
  • CRFSC six hour course fee – $157.50 including tax in Campbell River. This course is for people who already have their non-restricted PAL.

  • Course fees are non-refundable. Students may transfer, one time only, to a later course - transfer fee is $65.63 including tax for the CRFSC. Students may arrange for an eligible alternate to take their place in the event they are unable to attend their scheduled NIFSC PAL course.

General Course Info

  • All courses consist of two basic components - the Student Guide and classroom instruction. Both are equally important if students are to pass these courses.
  • Students may download a free .pdf version of the Student Guide here or order a printed version from the Crown Printer here. Students should read the Student Guide before attending the classroom sessions.
  • Both courses emphasize safe storage, display, transportation, handling and use of  firearms and compliance with Federal, Provincial and Municipal laws, regulations and bylaws.
  • Students must take both a written and a practical exam at the end of each course with a minimum mark of 80% to pass.
  • Unsuccessful students are allowed to re-test 1-7 days after their initial course. Re-tests must be scheduled with the instructor. Re-tests – $47.25 including tax.
  • Students who are more than 30 minutes late for class will not be allowed entry and will forfeit their course fees. They may register for another course at their own expense.
  • Course fees are non-refundable. Students may transfer, one time only, to a later course - transfer fee is $91.87 including tax for the CFSC and $65.63 including tax for the CRFSC. Students may arrange for an eligible alternate to take their place in the event they are unable to attend their scheduled NIFSC PAL course.
  • 100% course attendance is required in order to take the written and practical exams.
  • NO live ammunition or operating firearms are allowed in the classroom.
  • There are no live-fire exercises or range time included in these courses.
  • Communities or organizations wanting us to present the CFSC/CRFSC in locations other than Campbell River should contact us for details on our Travelling Course option. We can bring the class to you!
